Feed families with PB&J to honor the Vols

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- We're celebrating the Tennessee basketball team with peanut butter and jelly!

Starting Friday, Knoxville area Food City locations want you to fill the baskets full of peanut butter and jelly, for families in need.

PB&J can be an essential way to feed a family. All donations go to the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.

Peanut butter is packed with protein and takes little preparation to be ready to eat. That's why it's in big demand from Second Harvest, and usually flies off their shelves.

"Before the holidays it (donations) really picks up, people in this community give, and then after the holidays are over we kind of dip down," Jeff Gross said. "This is coming at a really good time, so we can restock our supply of peanut butter."

Susan Rudd is a huge Vols fan, and helped organize the peanut butter and jelly drive.

She says your donation is a great way to make a difference, and support the vols.

"If the success of the team brings this to Second Harvest and then they in turn can help someone else, and put food on their table then, its a win-win," Rudd said.

Donations can be dropped off at any Knoxville area Food City March 15-22.
