Phoenix Pharmacy and Fountain: A bridge from the past to the future

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Not many people remember old time drug stores that were a spot for medicine and sweets. The Phoenix Pharmacy and Fountain in downtown Knoxville is like a trip back in time to those good old days.

The family-run Phoenix Pharmacy has a 1920s feel with old medicines and nostalgic sweets that line the walls.

"It's hopefully a welcoming atmosphere that takes you back to a time where things were simpler than today," said owner Nolan Sherrill.

Its main attraction is the soda fountain featuring items like the Big Orange Creamsicle and the Great Smoky Mountain, a sundae with mountains of ice cream, hot fudge, caramel and loads of whipped cream.

The Phoenix Pharmacy and Fountain is located at 418 South Gay St. in Knoxville. The soda fountain can be reached at 865-692-1603 for more information.
