MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WVLT/WREG) -- The manager of a Memphis Sonic restaurant was injured after exchanging fire with armed suspects on Sunday night, CBS affiliate WREG reported.

An employee told the Memphis Police Department that she was watching the door when she saw someone look inside. A minute later, she said two armed men came inside and demanded money. She pointed to the cash register, and she said the suspects started getting the money.

As the suspects were getting the money, the Sonic's manager came from the back of the business firing a weapon. WREG reported the suspects returned fire and hit the manager in the leg.

Investigators said the suspects ran across the street and got into a grey Cadillac DeVille with large rims that were shaped like a star.

Sonic released a statement saying the company was thankful no guests were injured and that the franchisee owner is cooperating in the investigation.
