Pregnant Tennessee woman indicted on child sex charges
A pregnant Tennessee woman was indicted on charges of committing graphic and gruesome crimes against a child, according to CBS affiliate WREG.
A grand jury in Tipton County handed down a 13-count indictment against Ashley Thomas for child neglect, sexual exploitation, sexual battery and responsibility for the rape of a child.
Investigators report that the abuse happened over several years, beginning when the victim was younger than eight; the charges are also connected to Thomas' boyfriend, David Henson, who is currently serving a prison sentence.
The indictment said the neglect was "especially heinous, atrocious or cruel or involved torture to the victim," WREG reported.
Tipton County District Attorney General Mark Davidson said while this case is disturbing, it serves as an important reminder to pay attention and contact authorities if you suspect any type of abuse is happening.
"That's your duty as a citizen and as a parent," he said.
