Rain and cold moving in to East Tennessee this Veterans Day weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Friday is rainy! It started this morning, but we have breaks in the raining and it's slowly tapering off in coverage the rest of today, and around three quarters of an inch of rainfall on average.

Highs in the mid 50s are midday, with upper 40s by 4 p.m.

Friday evening into Saturday morning, we'll have isolated change to wintry mix to snow showers in the higher elevations, on the Plateau to Northeast Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky. The Smoky Mountains will see some more snow showers and light accumulations possible on the mountaintops.

LOOKING AHEAD

Tonight comes with clouds, spotty mix to flakes in the higher elevations, and a low around 30 degrees.

This is colder air digging further South, which will make for a chilly but clear weekend!

Saturday starts off with lingering clouds, but clears for the afternoon and will only warmup to the mid 40s.

I'M ALL VOL FORECAST - With a 3:30 kickoff, it will be sunny and 44 degrees at the start of the UT game. It's a chilly game, with sunset at 5:30, plus a cold wind. Bundle up!

It will be sunny on Sunday for Veterans Day, with highs in the low 50s, and increasing clouds late afternoon to evening.

Monday will be rainy again, with colder air behind it. This will bring highs in to the 40s, and some extra cold nights. We're keeping an eye on a possibility for some wintry mix to snow showers Tuesday, especially outlining the Valley, as temperatures drop throughout the day.
