Second Harvest donates food to TSA workers

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- As the government shutdown continues, local organizations, like the Second Harvest Food Bank, is stepping up to help those affected.

Federal workers are supposed to get their first paycheck of the year tomorrow, but some won't be getting that.

To help workers compensate for the loss of money, the Second Harvest Food Bank is donating food boxes to the 92 TSA employees at McGhee Tyson Airport who are working without pay.

"We are here to feed this community," said Elaine Streno, with the organization. "It's a different type of event for us, but one we're honored to be able to do."

Second Harvest plans to hand out the boxes on Friday.
