Sevierville took time to celebrate being a Tree City USA on Friday.

The event downtown on the public square told the history of Sevierville's efforts to protect trees in the city.

Sevier County High School Choir sang Dolly Parton's “Tennessee Mountain Home” for the end of the service, which they say describes the beauty of the area the city is trying to preserve.

It's not all about planting trees, but how the existing ones are maintained.

"And if a tree needs to be trimmed, we trim it properly as well as maintain trees that have been here for hundreds of years," said Bob Parker with Severville's Tree City USA.

There are 40 Tree City USA cities in Tennessee with Sevierville being the 3rd oldest.
