KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- It's not the kind of salt at your dinner table.
It's the kind of salt you put in your tub.
"One of the greatest benefits for our health is when you actually soak, whether you put your feet in an Epsom salt bath or you actually take a bath," said Dr. Pete Sulack, America's Leading Stress Expert.
It's called Epsom salt and Dr. Pete told Local 8 News it's going to help us out in a high-stress world.
"Under stress the body becomes toxic and deficient so anything we can do to help detoxify body and add the sufficiency it needs, is great for us," said Dr. Pete.
Dr. Pete said Epsom salt is so powerful because it's full of magnesium and sulfate. That's what's going to get you the benefits.
He added that magnesium and sulfate are vital minerals we don't get enough of. They will help soothe those achy muscles and pains.
"Great for muscle and nerve function, great for reducing inflammation and pain," said Dr. Pete.
It's a two-step process that you can do twice a week for 40 minutes at a time to take out toxins and put in nutrients.
"That means the body detoxifies itself through the skin of all the harmful toxins and then it allows the body to absorb the magnesium and sulfate," said Dr. Pete.
Dr. Pete said it helps beautify, as well. It can make flat hair come to life.
"It will remove some of the excess oil that's causing hair to be weighed down and flat," said Dr. Pete.
Not to mention, it can fertilize your garden.
"Take a tablespoon of Epsom salt and put it underneath the soil under the plants," said Dr. Pete. "It will help them get that vibrant look."
