Shop with the Doc: Castor Oil

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- For many, it was a real trauma when Grandma tried to give you a spoonful of castor oil right before bed when you were growing up.

Some have found that a spoonful was worth it.

"It has so many rich properties for such a little price," said Dr. Pete Sulack, America's Leading Stress Expert.

You could pick up castor oil for under $2.00 a bottle at Kroger.

"Castor oil is cheap, it's effective and it will actually stimulate that hair growth again so you don't go bald," said Dr. Pete.

Dr. Pete said castor oil consisted of a powerful fatty acid, making it your perfect beauty tool.

"For all those women out there who want their lashes a little bit thicker and longer, castor oil is one of those things that will do just that," said Dr. Pete.

To do that, just dab a little bit on your lashes.

He said it will also keep your face clean and healthy. Try rubbing it on your face and putting a warm washcloth on your skin. Dr. Pete told Local 8 News it can hydrate your skin, clear up acne problems, and give you a more youthful glow.

"It's great for increasing the formation of collagen and elastin, which are those connective tissues that's literally going to keep that skin firm," said Dr. Pete.

By massaging castor oil on your scalp every day, it can help your hair grow naturally.

"For all those going bald who don't want to lose their hair, castor oil is literally one of the greatest things you can use to stimulate hair growth and remove infection that causes hair lost," said Dr. Pete.

He added that on an empty stomach, you can swallow a teaspoon to help your digestive system and immune system.

According to Dr. Pete, it doesn't taste good, but you can change up the flavor by mixing it with some juice.

Dr. Pete added you should always consult with your doctor before changing up your routines.
