KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A hot cup of coffee is going to do much more than wake you up in the morning.
"It goes far beyond the energy booster and the pick-me-up that you get from coffee," said Dr. Pete Sulack, America's Leading Stress Expert.
Dr. Pete told Local 8 News your cup of joe is packed with antioxidants.
"Those antioxidants, which help fight against aging, that help in really boosting your immune system, that helps fight chronic illness," said Dr. Pete.
He said you will save money by buying bulk at Costco, but you also have to buy it organic. He suggested picking up any organic brand from Costco.
"Coffee, around the world, is one of the most contaminated food products on the planet, so I want to make sure I get organic," said Dr. Pete.
Be careful with how much you drink. He said too much caffeine will do more bad than good.
It is all about moderation. Dr. Pete said you don't want to have any more than 500 milligrams of caffeine a day, which he said is a little more than a Venti cup of coffee from Starbucks.
You might be surprised at how powerful it is.
"We're looking at literally helping your brain, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's patients," said Dr. Pete. "We're finding research now that it helps with type 2 diabetes."
You can even supercharge it. It is called the Bulletproof Coffee. Dr. Pete drinks it every morning and he said it's easy for you to make at home.
All you have to do is brew some coffee and throw it in a blender. Dr. Pete will add coconut oil, grass-fed butter, some cocoa powder, and a little bit of cinnamon.
"It's rich in antioxidants and rich in good healthy fats," said Dr. Pete. "If you want to sweeten it up, add some green leaf stevia, add some honey, or add some creamer."
He said you'll be set for the day.
