Special prosecutor to investigate Casada email

Tennessee speaker spurns calls to resign from leadership/ Source: WTVF

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/WTVF) -- A special prosecutor has been appointed to investigate House Speaker Glen Casada's email connected to student activist Justin Jones, according to a release from Casada's office.

"I have learned that a special prosecutor has been appointed by the District Attorney Generals' Conference to begin investigating the email from Mr. Justin Jones that was forwarded by my former Chief of Staff to the local District Attorney," the statement said.

NewsChannel 5 reported that an email sent by Casada's former chief of staff Cade Cothren sent to the DA's office in March, which suggested that Jones had violated a court's no-contact order by sending an email on March 1. The email had actually been sent on Feb. 25 before the no-contact order.

Cothren has since resigned, but Casada has said that the email was not altered.
