North Carolina state Trooper shot and killed overnight
A North Carolina state trooper has died after being shot during a traffic stop in Columbus County.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol issued a statement early Wednesday morning.
The trooper, who has not been identified, was conducting a traffic stop on U.S. 701 near Sellers Town Rd. in Columbus County, North Carolina around 12:15am Wednesday.
The statement only says that the trooper was shot during the encounter and taken to a local hospital where he or she died.
A male suspect is in custody following what's being described as an 'extensive search' of the area where it happened. The suspect has not been identified.
