Sheriff: Man takes driver hostage, shoots at deputies

HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Hamblen County Sheriff's Office says a team of deputies are "OK" after a suspect fired at them during a vehicle pursuit.

According to the sheriff's office, a suspect had hi-jacked a vehicle and took the driver hostage. Deputies responded and pursued the suspect. The suspect shot at the deputies' vehicle. A bullet struck the hood of the car.

The deputies are "OK."

The suspect exited the stolen vehicle near Fern Wood Church Road and attempted to kick down the front doors of two different house to gain entry.

The sheriff's office K-9, Nexy, arrived on scene and helped apprehend the suspect. The suspect is in custody.
