SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Sweetwater woman claiming to have Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer raked in thousands of dollars from the community. Now she's apologizing for it. Ashley Lively spoke exclusively with Local 8 News on Saturday.

Heather Burian: "I think the question we all have is, why would you lie about cancer?"

Ashley Lively: "I've had some things going on. All I really wanted was the attention from my family from what was going on before. It went way out of my hands. It went too far. It exploded. I was not expecting it to blow up like it did."

Heather: "The sheriff's office says you ended up taking $8,000 from people in this community who had spoke to me and said they were grieving for you. They believed in you. You were in their prayers night. What do you say to that?"

Ashley: "I'm really sorry for that. I wasn't thinking of what would happen. I wasn't thinking at all. I just wanted that attention from my family."

Reporter Heather Burian will have more from the interview this week on Local 8 News.
