KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Officials are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Kingsport.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the shooting occurred in the 2000 block of Diane Avenue in Kingsport.
CBS affiliate WJHL reported that the District Attorney General Barry Staubus received a call from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office regarding the incident.
TBI said that just before 1:30 p.m., deputies received information that Terry Frost, who had active arrest warrants, was at a Kingsport home on Pennsylvania Road. Investigators went to home and saw Frost run from the residence. A short time later, TBI said Frost was seen getting into an SUV on Diana Avenue.
Investigators initiated a traffic stop and ordered the driver of the SUV, a woman, to get out of the vehicle. When she did, investigators said Frost got into the driver's seat and accelerated when deputies tried to pull him from the SUV. TBI said Frost dragged a deputy alongside the vehicle, and the deputy fired shots, hitting Frost.
The vehicle traveled a short distance before stopping near a home on Diana Avenue.
TBI said Frost was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The deputy was transported to a hospital for treatment.
This is an active investigation.
