TN officer charged after incident involving an ax

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WVLT/WREG) -- Investigators say an incident with an ax at a Memphis restaurant ended with a police officer getting taken into custody.

According to CBS affiliate WREG, Dartelle Joyner, 34, was charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication after an altercation with a woman at a local Mexican restaurant on Thursday night.

Police said Joyner was involved in the altercation with the woman inside the restaurant when a security guard intervened and the woman left.

Joyner reportedly walked to his vehicle, got an ax and began twirling it in the air. WREG reported the security guard asked Joyner to drop the ax multiple times. When Joyner dropped it, the security guard took him into custody.

WREG reported Joyner has been relieved of duty pending the investigation. He has been with the Memphis Police Department since 2010.
