TWRA: Releases the identity of fisherman recovered from Douglas Lake on Thursday

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The body of a missing fisherman has been recovered from Douglas Lake, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports.

TWRA said that Paul Allen Irwin, 72, of Sandy Ridge Rd. in Dandridge, died yesterday after he apparently fell overboard while attempting to launch his boat at Dandridge Access Area.

According to a release from TWRA, officials received a call at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday that a boat was adrift and a fisherman was missing near the Dandridge Access area boat ramp.

TWRA believes at this point that the victim was either launching or retrieving his boat as his truck was backed down the ramp with the trailer in the water.

The body was located about 80 feet off the shoreline in ten feet of water by a boating investigator using a Remote Operated Vehicle. Members of the Jefferson County Rescue Squad recovered his body at about 3:37 p.m.

The victim's identity will be released tomorrow after notifying the next-of-kin.
