SMYRNA, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Smyrna Police Department said a three-year-old child has died after being left alone in a hot car, CBS affiliate WTVF reported.

Investigators have arrested the child's 23-year-old father, Dylan Levesque, in connection with the incident. Officials identified the child as Daylin Palmer.

Investigators were called to a home on the 700 block of Windbirch Trail where a child was found unresponsive in a vehicle on July 11 just before 5 p.m.

WTVF reported first responders tried to save the child, but they were unsuccessful.

Police said the child likely died from heat exposure.

Levesque was charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect. His bond was set at $50,000.
