Tenn. mom arrested after infant sustains third-degree burns

CORDOVA, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Cordova mother was charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect after her four-month-old child sustained multiple injuries, including third-degree burns.

CBS affiliate WREG reported that police were called to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital around 10 a.m. Tuesday. Doctors told investigators that a toddler had been admitted for severe third-degree burns from his torso down. Doctors discovered that the child had additional external and internal injuries.

The mother, Chantel Woodson, claimed the burns were the result of a bath. She said she placed the baby in the sink around 7 p.m. on Monday, filled it with water and walked away. She told police she returned when she heard the baby screaming and noticed he was burned.

Woodson did not tell investigators how the child had sustained other internal and external injuries.
