A high speed chase ensued after Tennessee and Kentucky authorities identified a Killeen, Texas man shooting at other vehicles traveling south on Interstate 75 while holding his mother against her will at gunpoint on Sunday.

The pursuit began in Whitley County, Kentucky and continued south into Campbell County as the driver, Stephen George Williams, fired his handgun recklessly out his vehicle while holding his mother, 62-year-old Linda Williams, at gunpoint.

While trying to evade the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Williams struck another slowing vehicle while attempting to pass. His Ford F150 stuck and came to an eventual stop on the cable barrier.

Williams was taken into custody and booked in the Campbell County Dentition Facility.

Williams's mother was transported to LaFollette Medical Center before being transferred to University of Tennessee Medical Center.
