KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knoxville Fire Department's newest recruits used buildings set to be demolished for training on Tuesday.
Recruits ran through real-life scenarios at Walter P. Taylor Homes, once public housing. The burn training simulates what the recruit may have to handle as they work to become fully-fledged firefighters.
According to a KFD spokesperson, the recruits are set to graduate in the coming months, on February 8.
Once they finish burn training, crews will demolish what is left of the buildings so can construction can begin on 82 new affordable housing units.
