CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WVLT/WDEF) -- One man faces charges after a Friday evening road rage incident ended with a fight.

On May 17, at around 4:30 p.m., Ashley McKenzie was on Interstate 24 when she what appeared to be a fight between two men on the shoulder of the road.
An arrest affidavit said that the two men, identified as Alexander Nicolou and Joseph Koehler, were driving on the interstate near the Fourth Avenue exit when the fight broke out.
According to the report, Nicolou told investigators that he had been trying to merge onto the interstate from the Germantown Ramp and had to ride the shoulder of the road before he forced his way into the flow of traffic.
Nicolou, who was in the car just behind Koehler when he merged, said he felt that Koehler had cut him off. The report said that both men then "engaged in road rage" by hand gestures, "verbals" and aggressive driving. Koehler and another witness said Nicolou brake checked Koehler repeatedly.
The report said when traffic stopped, Koehler got out of his vehicle and went to Nicolou's vehicle then punched him multiple times. The report said Koehler confessed to getting out of his vehicle and approaching Nicolou. Both men denied needing medical attention; however, the police report said Koehler was bleeding from the nose and had abrasions on his head. Nicolou had an abrasion on the side of his head and blood on his hand.
Koehler was charged with assault and was issued a $2,000 bond, while Nicolou faces a seat belt law violation.
