Workout partners on Craigslist
People are finding people to motivate them in the gym in a whole new way. They are turning to Craigslist to find their workout buddies.
Many in East Tennessee have posted ads describing the type of person they are looking for, specifying their age, marital status, and where they live. Then they meet at the gym.
"You don't know who you're going to go see," said Sandy Campbell, who posted an ad on Craigslist. "You just want to make the best of it and see if you have the same interests as the other person."
Sandy Campbell said she posted her ad about two weeks and she's already seeing a lot of success. She's received four calls.
Campbell started using Craigslist because she moved here from Chicago.
She met a woman moving here from Florida and they are going to start working out.
She determines if they're the right fit after talking for a little while.
"Mostly by age and what they're looking to do," said Campbell. "We walk around, jog, take it slow, and take it from there."
The President at National Fitness Center said they have classes and programs that allow people to meet and build a workout community.
He said if you do meet with someone through social media, do it in a public place.
"If you're going to meet someone, your first meeting shouldn't be on a trail some place, it shouldn't be out in the woods getting ready at a cross country run," said Lee Sloan, President at National Fitness Center. "Make it an open public place. A health club is the best place actually."
Sloan said that will give the person a feel for the person to find out if you are comfortable with them.
