Baseball Vols look to continue winning ways in Florida

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After an undefeated start to the season at home, the baseball Vols are hitting the road.

The Vols are a perfect 9-0 to start the season, and this weekend they'll head to Pensacola, Florida for the Cox Diamond Invitational. Tennessee will open the round-robin tournament with Louisiana Monroe on Friday at 3 p.m. ET before taking on North Florida on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET and Western Kentucky on Sunday at noon ET.

Those three teams have a combined record of 16-9 this season. In their nine-game homestand to start the season, the Vols have recorded sweeps against Indiana and Appalachian State in addition to their perfect midweek record.

UT is coming off back-to-back midweek wins over Liberty and Middle Tennessee. The Vols posted their sixth shutout of the season in Wednesday's victory over the Blue Raiders, marking the most shutouts the program has had in a season since 2005 (six).
At 9-0, UT is off to its best start since 2014 when the Vols began the season 12-0.

Wednesday night's win over the Blue Raiders was a historic one for the Vols pitching staff. Tennessee only allowed one hit en route to a 2-0 win. The bullpen was perfect in relief when freshman pitcher Camden Sewell exited after six one-hit innings. The Vols bullpen is among the nation's elite so far this year. They've allowed just one run and six hits while striking out 49 batters in 45.2 innings of work.
