KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Winning two district titles in a row - in many cases - would be impressive.

Winning 24 consecutive titles is unbelievable.

Gibbs High School's softball team has won 37 of the last 39 district titles. The last time they didn't win one was in 1995.

"I don't think there is a secret here. We're always competitive. We never give up," said senior Josie Huff.

Head Coach Carol Mitchell said, "It's important, I think, for them to understand the tradition - and not only understand it, but contribute to it."

Mitchell has won 900 games as the team's head coach. Her impact is deeply felt in the history of the program - something the players grew up seeing.

"When I was five years old, I was praying that I'd be able to make it out here and play on this softball team."

Gibbs is set to play Fulton in the first round of regionals on Monday.

Coach Mitchell will be recognized for reaching the 900 win mark before the game.
