Grainger falls in State Quarterfinals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The first of our four area teams in action at the girls State basketball tournament was Grainger. The Lady Grizzlies facing Cheatham County out of the Nashville area in the Class-AA Quarterfinals.

Grainger's Lauren Longmire would hit a bucket in the paint to cut the Cheatham Co. lead to 43-41 in the 4th period, but that would be it for Grainger. The Lady Grizzlies would not score over the last 3:24 of the game and it would cost them the contest.

After Longmire's bucket, the Lady Cubs would go on a 6-0 run to seal the deal. Emmy Nelson would lead Cheatham County with a game high 14 points.

Congratulations to the Grainger Lady Grizzlies on a terrific season which ends with an impressive 30-7 record.

Oak Ridge, Oneida and Midway will see their first action on Thursday at Middle Tennessee State.
