The City of Oak Ridge and Oak Ridge Schools will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Friday to celebrate the upcoming renovations to Blankenship Field.
Work has already started on the historic athletic field, which has been home to Oak Ridge High School football for decades. The celebration will begin at 4 p.m.
Fans can take home a piece of sod from the original field. The amount of available sod is limited, and is free on a first come, first served basis.
Contractors say the new artificial turf surface should be ready to go by the end of April, in time for Oak Ridge High School's graduation in May.
