Gruden cancels speaking engagement at Friday's UT Football Coaches Clinic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Due to a last minute schedule change, Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden will not speak at Friday's Tennessee Football Coaches Clinic.

"I just want to say I'm really sorry I can't be there at the clinic," Gruden said in a video posted on Tennessee Football's Twitter account. "We're trying to get a first down (in Oakland), we've got a lot going on."

Gruden added his pleasure watching the job UT Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt and the Vols' staff are doing in preparation for the 2019 season.

"Coach Pruitt, really excited about the job you're doing with the Volunteers. You've got my man Derrick Ansley there. I know you're going to turn things around fast."

Ansley is the new defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. He served with Oakland as the Raiders' defensive backs coach before coming to Rocky Top.

The UT Coaches Clinic, which started March 7, gives high school coaches the chance to speak with the Tennessee coaching staff, along with other guest speakers.

Still slated to speak this evening during 'Chalk Talk' is Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens, Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich and longtime NFL assistant coach Tom Moore.
