Hazel Head, Pat Summitt's mom, passes away at age 93

Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT)-- A fixture by Pat Summitt's side throughout the legendary coach's career and during her battle with Alzheimer's, Hazel Albright Head has passed away at the age of 93.

The news confirmed to WVLT by the University of Tennessee.

Coach Summitt always talked about the strength she derived from her mom, who's family was by her side Wednesday in Henrietta, Tennessee.

The Pat Summitt Foundation released a statement regarding the passing of Mrs. Hazel Head.

“Mrs. Head was a strong, kind-hearted woman of faith who leaves behind a legacy of love and caring for others, qualities which were reflected throughout the life of Pat Summitt. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Head family.”

Mrs. Head was in declining health after suffering a small stroke. back in October. Arrangements are not yet complete for coach Summitt's mom, who will be buried in the same cemetery outside of Henrietta where Pat and her husband Richard were laid to rest.
