Knoxille Catholic runner named Gatorade Runner of the Year

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knoxville Catholic senior Jake Renfree was recently named this year's Gatorade Tennessee Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

The award designates Renfree as the top runner in the state.

Renfree finished second at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in the fall. He finished with a time of 15:19.5, garnering First Team All-American honors.

He also won Tennessee's Division 1 large state meet, finishing more than 15 seconds ahead of his closest competition.

Renfree has a 4.33 weighted GPA, and has signed to run at Notre Dame this fall.

Webb School's Carter Coughlin won the award last year. Aaron Templeton, of Hardin Valley won the award twice. Templeton and Coughlin are the only others from the Knoxville area to win the award, since its inception in 2007.
