Lady Vols Softball Opens Season No. 6 in National Polls

Tennessee softball is off to a great start this season, earning itself a consensus top-ten ranking.

The Lady Vols found themselves No. 6 in the three national polls (USA Today/NFCA Coaches' Poll, ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 and Softball America) at the end of the first week of the regular season as announced on Tuesday.

The Lady Vols are coming off a perfect 5-0 weekend at the Kickin' Chicken Classic in Myrtle Beach. UT's offense was dominant, outscoring its opponents 49-4.

The pitching was nearly perfect as well. The trio of Caylan Arnold, Ashley Rogers and Matty Moss all recorded wins. Arnold leads the staff with a 0.90 ERA while Rogers is the top freshman in the SEC with 22 strikeouts.

This week, Tennessee will head to Clearwater to take part in ESPN's inaugural St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational. They'll face an elite field, including ten programs ranked in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Pre-Season Poll.

The Lady Vols are scheduled to face three of those teams, including defending national champion Florida State.
