Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Holly Warlick's Tennessee Lady Vols snapped their six game losing streak last Sunday by turning back LSU 67-50. The ladies were back on the Summitt floor Thursday night looking to make it two wins in a row and they'd do just that.
Tennessee started fast and led by 16 points after the first quarter and had a 12 point advantage over the Lady Gators at the break. Coming into the game coach Warlick talked about the need for her team to get tougher even saying, "we're gonna build that toughness and I was told you can't teach effort and toughness well, I'm gonna prove that wrong because that's what we need it's just a grind and it's repetitive and it's repetitive and it's repetitive."
Well Tennessee would show that toughness Thursday at Thompson-Boling Arena especially in the area of rebounding where the lady Vols dominated throughout the game. Individually, it was Rennia Davis leading the way for Tennessee both on the boards and with her scoring. She finished with a double-double, 19 points and 10 rebounds. Cheridene Green would add 15 points for Tennessee.
Tennessee improves to 14-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play. After two straight home games, it's back on the road for the Lady Vols who play at Vanderbilt on Super Bowl Sunday. Tip-Off from Memorial Gymnasium is set for 3 p.m. ET.
