Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT)— A Holiday weekend crowd of 21,165 watched Rick Barnes’ Vols
trounce Tennessee Tech 96-53.
No.3 Tenn. would gradually build its lead behind the solid play of
Grant Williams, who led the Volunteers in scoring with 25 points.
The All-SEC forward was one of four Volunteers in double figures. Admiral Scholfield and Jordan Bone each contributed 16 points for the Vols, who shot 63% from the field against the Golden Eagles.
John Fulkerton added a career high 15 points and had a hand in Tennessee’s 12 blocked shots on Saturday!
Jordan Bone also is the first Tennessee player to record two double-doubles from points and assists in the same season since Tyrone Beaman did so during the 1982-83 season.
The Vols head into SEC play with an 11-1 record, but head coach Rick Barnes said after the game, “What we have done up to this point, you can throw it out because we are getting into conference play and we know what kind of grind it is.”
That grind for UT begins next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. as UT welcomes in Georgia to Thompson-Boling Arena.
