SEC Softball Tourney: Lady Vols fall in quarterfinals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- It was No.10 seed Auburn defeating 2-seed Tennessee 2-0 Thursday night 2-0 eliminating the 24th ranked lady Vols from the 2019 SEC Softball Tournament. A pair of errors, one physical and one in judgement, would help do in the Lady Vols.

The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and then in the second inning at College Station Texas got new life when a sure second out was dropped by UT. An infield pop to the pitchers circle was dropped when first baseman Ashley Morgan collided with pitcher Caylan Arnold. The runner would hustle to second and then come in to score on Senior Casey McCrackin's bloop single to right.

Then in the bottom of the 5th the Lady Vols squander a lead off double following a base running error. Treasuary Poindexter, running for Morgan, left 3rd base on a bunt Aubrey Leach would have beat out at first, but Poindexter committed towards home, got caught in a run down and was eventually tagged out at the plate.

That would be it for UT's scoring chances as the Tigers hold on for the 2-0 win and will advance to face Florida in the Semifinal round. The Lady Vols (39-14) are headed home and now await their assignment in the NCAA Tournament. That announcement will come on Sunday.
