In October of this year the Tennessee School for the Deaf (TSD) played host to the Mason Dixon Volleyball Tournament featuring 11 schools for the deaf from around the Southeast. That tournament was played under a collection of more than a dozen National Championship banners for other sports at TSD. Jeanne Fair is TSD's head coach, she says she knew at the beginning of the year that the team was destined for great things.
"This year we secretly knew it but we didn't tell them that we felt they had a good chance to win things" said Fair.
This vikings squad had worked well together all year and the seniors on the team felt like they had a chance to make a strong showing at the tournament
"We we're hyped up, we were so excited, we were like we can do it. We can do it. I was a little bit like praying on the court like, god let her win this championship please God please God." said Wilma Robinson
That prayer would be answered, TSD won all five of their tournament games, including the final against the defending champions Mississippi.
As if winning the tournament wasn't enough, the squad found out last week that they were named Co-National Champions.
