KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT.) -- The 19th-ranked Tennessee basketball team returned from its nine-day break to take on the 13th-ranked Memphis Tigers Saturday afternoon inside Thompson-Boling Arena.

Vols fell to Memphis 51-47 after a hard-fought game.

Saturday's game against the Tigers was the 27th meeting between the programs and the second match up in the series' current three-game contract. The Vols held a 15-11 edge in the series before today's loss. This was just the second match up during which both schools are ranked inside the AP top 25.

A Tennessee victory would have given head coach Rick Barnes his 700th career coaching victory.

The loss broke the Vols' at-home winning streak.
