Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Former Vol great Tony White, who's battling cancer, spent time at and even spoke to the crowd at the weekly Big Orange Tip-Off Club gathering on Wednesday.

White, who's received an outpouring of support from Vol Nation said, "I appreciate all the support. All the prayers a real boost to me. Coach Barnes and the players have been coming out to see me and support me." Tony added, " with everything that I've experienced since September the 8th, 2018, this is overwhelming that they would invite me here to speak to the Club. It's very nice to have the support to help me fight my battle."

There's no question, the Wizard, one of the greatest players in UT basketball history who scored 51 and 49 points in two different games for the Vols back in the 1986-'87 season, says, "it's given me a boost that it's been almost 32 years and people still respect me and all the things I did for Tennessee basketball, it's given me a boost."

As for what he's witnessing on the court this season, White is extremely impressed and had a chance to tell the team that in person. He told them, "this is very special what they're doing and that they're playing basketball the right way, playing for each other." And for the team to give him their support, Tony says it's overwhelming and humbling to him.

Like all former players, the Wizard says he feels pride for what coach Barnes and the Vols are doing saying, " they're bringing all the history and pride back to Tennessee basketball back to number one and like I said, playing basketball the right way."

Tony says thank you to Vol Nation for all their prayers and support and again that it's very uplifting and that he will continue his battle!
