Tough task for Lady Vols against regular season champs Mississippi State in SEC Tournament

GREENEVILLE, S.C. (WVLT) -- Friday holds a tough task for the Tennessee Lady Vols in the SEC Tournament.

Holly Warlick and Tennessee will take on no. 5 Mississippi State Friday at noon in Greenville, S.C.

Today marks the 43rd time Mississippi State and Tennessee have battled on the court. UT is 4-1 in SEC Tournament play, and leads the all-time series 37-5.

Despite the lopsided record, defeating the Bulldogs will be a demanding task. Mississippi State is the ranked fifth in the country, and is expected to be a no. 2 seed in the NCAA Women’s Tournament.

The Bulldogs are the overall no.1 seed in the SEC Tournament after capturing their second-straight regular season title, going 15-1 in conference play this season.

While Tennessee kept their regular season meeting with Mississippi State close in the first half, the Bulldogs eventually went on to a dominating 91-63.

The difference for the Lady Vols may be the addition of point guard Evina Westbrook to the Tennessee line-up, who sat out the regular season match-up due to a violation of team rules for missing class.

Tip-off is set for noon on the SEC Network. Former Lady Vol Tamika Catchings will be part of the SEC play-by-play crew.

Tennessee made it through their first game in the SEC Tournament after surviving in a tough win against LSU 69-66 Thursday.
