“Vance Pitch” honored by Knox County

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)— If someone’s been doing something for 40 years chances are they’re pretty good at it.Well that’s the case for a guy who’s been a diamond in the rough around here for many years and now he’s finally being honored for it.

You may not have heard of Vance Link, but trust me, if your kid has played youth ball over the years with Knox Youth Sports, then chances are Vance Link is a household name!

Vance has played a major role in educating our children on the fundamentals of baseball. In fact, if your kids have come through the system, you know it all starts out with coach pitch ball—-well, that's something Mr. Link has done for years.. So much so, they've come to call it Vance pitch ball.

Well, to honor Vance, Knox County held a tribute in his honor Tuesday at the City County Building. Decked out in their uniforms, generations of players and their families were there to pay tribute to a guy who's been a difference maker both on and off the field for the past four decades.

Regarding the honor Vance says, “I just love the game and the ability to teach kids not only about baseball but the game of life. the world is much bigger than a baseball diamond but they can learn from the experience of playing the game how good life is for them and to be blessed and thankful for that."

Vance said it brought a tear to his eyes to see all the players there tonight--even though there's a a pretty good age gap, he considers all of them his friend!

We salute Vance Link and those at KYS who have and continue to make a difference in the lives of so many. Play ball!
