KNOXVILLE, Tenn- (WVLT)- Here are some of the top stories from Local 8 News to get you out the door this morning:

East Tenn. schools close due to illness, again

After going back to school for a day, officials at Knox County Schools have decided to close again.

They are just one school district on a list of more than two dozen schools that are closed due to illness.

A representative for Knox County Schools said Wednesday's attendance was 89.48 percent, but that the school system had record 572 staff member absences that required a substitute. KCS could not find substitutes for 31 percent of those absences.

Harley recalls nearly 175,000 bikes because brakes can fail

Harley-Davidson is recalling nearly 175,000 motorcycles because the brakes might fail.

The U.S. recall covers more than 30 models from the 2008 through 2011 model years. Harley says deposits can form on brake parts if the fluid isn't changed every two years as specified in the owner's manual. That can cause a valve in the antilock brake control unit to stick.

Senate leaders' budget deal faces opposition in both parties

Senate leaders hope to approve a budget measure Thursday and send it to the House for a confirming vote before the government begins to shut down Thursday at midnight. The plan would shower the Pentagon and domestic programs with an extra $300 billion over the next two years. But it's a defeat for many liberal Democrats pushing to resolve the plight of immigrant "Dreamers" who face deportation after being brought to the U.S. illegally as children.
