If you already love the Tennessee native, you'll really love to hear how she spends her free time helping others.

It's no secret that Hale has a big heart for philanthropic work involving children and animals.

The starlet recently traveled to Mexico City with Smile Train, an organization that funds cleft palate surgeries for children in third world countries.

"It's always interesting to me to see different ways of life, but that was one of the most inspiring experiences of my life because these are people who have nothing but make the most of everything. Which sort of is like Life Sentence in a way," Hale said of her experience with Smile Train.

The actress well-known for her role on Pretty Little Liars said she also loves volunteering at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital since she grew up in Memphis.

"I've gotten to meet with some patients which is always nice to brighten their day," Hale said of her time at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. "But I usually do things that speak to my heart, and I realize that people are listening to what I have to say, so I want to make sure that what I say and what I stand for rings true to who I am."

It hasn't gone unnoticed that Hale's charitable heart rings true to her Volunteer State roots.

Life Sentence premieres Wednesday night at 9 p.m. on the CW.
