Greenlight a Vet project asks you to light your porch green in support of veterans

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- If you see a green light shining on a porch or in a window, it's to show support for veterans. It's an initiative that asks people to "green light a vet."

Green is the color of hope, renewal and well being.

So far about a 1.5 million people have stepped up to support the cause in East Tennessee and around the country.

"It very much affects my husband because he's emotional person and know people do support the veterans," said Nancy Schmidt, the wife of a veteran.

"We don't have to know who they are, they just need to appreciate them," said Jennifer Stefano, a veteran.

The Veterans Affairs clinic on Ray Mears Boulevard has green lights shining.

If you're looking for a green bulb around town, many hardware stores are out of stock. Managers do expect a new shipment to arrive soon.
