OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Soon seniors will call the guest house at the Alexander Inn home.
Take an old, run down, but historic, building and make it into something useful. That was the idea behind the renovations of the former guest house at Alexander Inn.
When developers first walked into the building, they literally fell through the floor. After some hard work, a little elbow grease and $8 million, the building is ready to open as a senior living facility.
"I was aware of this building for at least 10 years. I looked at buying it a couple of times, but we could never make the numbers work out properly and frankly had just given up on it. It was just in such a state of repair that I didn't think it was going to make it much longer," said Rick Dover, the managing developer of Dover Development. "As it turned out, it was a very complicated arrangement, but it actually worked and we're here two years later and hopefully going to open up in a couple of weeks"
The Alexander Inn is on the Register of Historic Places. Many important historic figures have stayed at the inn, including government officials and scientists.
