Knoxville sets world record with duct tape wearing

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) The city of Knoxville can now officially be titled as world record holder for the most people in one building wearing duct tape.

The honor came Thursday evening as part of the Destination Imagination Conference happening on UT's campus. Destination Imagination, or D.I., is a non-profit that pursues teaching students creative processes through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

"We give kids confidence and the opportunities to work on teams, be collaborative, and take on challenges that maybe they'd never take on otherwise," D.I. Program Director Andrew Whitmire said.

The rules for Thursday night's count? Each person had to wear at least two articles of clothing made entirely of duct tape, plus have an accessory of duct tape.

Even though thousands of people filled Thompson-Boling Arena, the official counting stopped at 8:00p.m., which means the new world record is now set at 752.

A judge from Guinness World Records was on hand to count and verify that people were wearing the correct number of duct tape accessories and clothing.
