KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Daniel and Mandy Watson started Restoration House in 2005, and were later were featured on Extreme Home Makeover in 2012.
"The community was so gracious, 4,500 volunteers built our home in the course of that week, and it really gave us a catapult for restoration house," said Daniel Watson.
Restoration House is a kind of development that helps families in desperate need. The Watsons are expanding Restoration House to help even more women.
"We all need restoration in some area or another, and so these families come in with brokenness in one area or another, and we're able to walk along side them, and help them experience restoration," said Mandy Watson.
The women receive help with emotional and spiritual needs through partnerships with area churches, Hand Up For Women program and Emerald Youth Foundation. People who live at Restoration House are required to pay up to 30 percent of their income. Within six months, each mom has to have a job or be in school full time. The goal is to be self-sustaining.
In Restoration House's first year, two families were helped. In the next year, the Watsons are envisioning much more.
The first phase of the project is a month ahead of schedule and under budget.
