FENTRESS COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The National Transportation Safety Board said an investigation is underway after a plane crashed near Crossville in the Wilder community of Fentress County on Thursday.

According to preliminary information from the FAA, the crash happened northwest of Crossville Memorial Airport on Thursday and the wreckage was found around 9:20 a.m. CT on Friday. Only the pilot was on board at the time of the crash.

Sheriff Michael Reagon with the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WVLT News that a body was recovered from the scene and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for identification.

NTSB officials said the crash involved a Cessna 150 airplane, which is a small aircraft capable of carrying a pilot and a passenger.
