Tennessee baseball earns 14-seed in NCAA Tournament
Tennessee baseball lost to Vanderbilt but still made it in the top 16 to host a regional
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Tennessee baseball is not done playing at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this season.
The Volunteers are one of the 16 teams to host a regional in this year’s NCAA Tournament, earning the No. 14 overall seed to host for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
It was revealed on Monday that Miami (OH), Cincinnati and Wake Forest will make their way to Knoxville for the tournament.
It’s slated to begin on Friday, May 30 at 1 p.m. when Wake Forest battles with Cincinnati. Miami (OH) will then take on Tennessee at 6 p.m. in Game 2.
Saturday and Sunday will both feature a pair of games: Saturday’s Game 3 will see the losers of Friday’s games, while Game 4 will be the winners of those games. Sunday’s Game 5 will have the winner of Game 3 face off against the loser of Game 4, and Game 6 will have the winner of Game 5 against the winner of Game 4.
If a Game 7 is needed, it will be played on Monday against the winner and loser of Game 6.
The winner of the Knoxville Regional will pair up with the winner of the Fayetteville Super Regional, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Tennessee enters the tournament 43-16 overall and 29-9 in games played at home. The Vols haven’t lost a Regional game since 2019.
The Volunteers are trying to become the first team to win back-to-back national championships since South Carolina in 2010 and 2011.

Despite a loss to in-state rival Vanderbilt Saturday in the SEC Tournament semifinals, they still ranked high enough to host.
It was the tournament quarterfinals that pushed Tennessee over the edge to be able to host a regional. Tennessee upset the number one overall team, Texas 7-5, in that round, and now the Volunteers are set for the postseason.
