‘We lost everything’: Petting zoo destroyed, all animals killed in fast-moving fire

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY/Gray News) - A petting zoo in Alabama was destroyed in an early-morning fire, with none of the animals able to be saved.

Two BY Two Petting Zoo shared the heartbreaking news on social media Wednesday evening.

“After 17 years in business, we lost everything. The fire spread incredibly fast, and by the time help arrived, none of our animals could be saved,” the social media post read.

The petting zoo, owned by Stephanie and Charles Jones, was a total loss, including its barns and animals such as lambs, bunnies and birds.

“For those who truly know our family, you know this loss goes far beyond a business. Our animals were our livelihood, our passion, and our family,” Two BY Two’s post continued. “Outside of our walk with Christ, they were our daily purpose. To lose what feels like the majority of our family in a matter of moments is a pain that words cannot fully describe.”

Multiple fire crews responded to the scene along with sheriff’s deputies.

“We are incredibly grateful to (these departments), and every single person who has called, texted, shown up, prayed, or reached out in love,” the petting zoo team shared. “Every act of kindness has been seen and felt more than you know.”

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Fire crews said the investigation continues.
