Man facing reckless murder charges following crash that killed his wife, 6-year-old daughter

GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY/Gray News) - The driver accused of causing a crash that killed his wife and young daughter is now facing reckless murder charges following his arrest, authorities in Alabama said.

Wesley Ty Cobb was served with two grand jury indictments and booked into jail Tuesday night on a $200,000 bond, the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Court records show a judge dismissed two counts of criminally negligent homicide tied to the July 2024 crash at the request of prosecutors. Wesley Cobb could not face both those charges and reckless murder charges stemming from the same incident.

The head-on collision killed Cobb’s 26-year-old wife, Tiffany Cobb, and the couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Rylan.

Alabama State Troopers alleged in a post-crash report that Wesley Cobb drank alcohol and used drugs before the wreck, but the report did not allege intoxication.

The crash happened on Alabama Highway 167, south of Hartford, and also injured a 16-year-old boy in the other vehicle.
