EAST NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/WTVF) -The daughter of murdered Nashville market clerk, Maged Ghaly, remembers her father’s generosity and how he treated customers like family.
CBS affiliate WTVF reported a memorial has grown outside of East Nashville’s Danial market for Ghaly who was also known as ‘Mike.'
“He would just give them what they need,” said his daughter Carien Riad. “There was this one lady who would come in with her kids and wouldn’t have enough money and he’d just give it to them.”
Carien said her father moved from Egypt to Middle Tennessee to build a better life for her and her 15-year-old brother. He owned and worked at the store for about five years.
According to investigators, Ghaly was working behind the counter early Saturday morning when he was shot and killed in an attempted robbery.
“He died the second he was shot because he was shot in the neck,” said Carien.
The suspect, Jerome Knight Junior, is in jail and charged with criminal homicide and attempted especially aggravated robbery. Junior will be in court Tuesday morning.
